About Judge-y

Judges answer to the public. Meet the public.

Judge-y is a public record of the American bench, and a place to say what happened in front of it. Two Louisville family lawyers built it after spending their careers in courtrooms where the person with the most power faced the least scrutiny.

Why it exists

A judge decides who keeps the children, who keeps the house, who goes home tonight. Most people meet that judge once, with no way of knowing beforehand how they run a courtroom.

Lawyers know. They trade it in hallways and group chats: who reads the filings, who lets both sides speak, who starts on time and who decided before anyone said a word. The people paying the price for a bad judge are the only ones who never hear it.

Judge-y puts that knowledge where they can find it. Every judge in the country is searchable for free, with ratings and reviews from the people who stood in front of them, beside the official record of who the judge is and where they sit.

What we make

The founders

Two family lawyers. Decades in court between them.

If you’re a judge and you’re afraid of a rating app, ask yourself what you’re doing that you don’t want people to see.

A native of Louisville, Kentucky, Christine earned a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Kentucky in 2007 and a Juris Doctor from New England School of Law in 2010. In law school she studied international law under the late Justice Antonin Scalia.

She began her career as a public defender specializing in juvenile law in Mount Sterling, then built a family law practice in Louisville, where for more than a decade she handled divorce, child custody and domestic violence cases. She was recognized as a Super Lawyer and a Top 10 Family Law Attorney.

She is now a vocal critic of the family court system. Her investigative work has been published by the Davis Vanguard.

At the end of the day, it’s about the kids who are stuck in the middle of a system that moves too slow.

Hugh “Trey” Barrow has practiced divorce and family law for more than twenty years. He grew up in South Carolina and worked in Maine, Vermont, Seattle and Alabama before practicing in Washington, D.C., at law firms and nongovernmental organizations.

In Louisville he grew a family law firm into a regional practice with six offices in five states, focused on high-asset divorce and complex adoption. He has represented thousands of clients and won numerous awards for his trial work.

He holds a J.D. from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University, an LL.M. from the University of Washington School of Law, an M.S. from Samford and a bachelor’s degree from Auburn. He is also the developer behind Judge-y, and an entrepreneur in clean energy and software.

The rules we keep

  1. We never alter the record.

Court, county and docket come from the institution, as the institution states them. What the public says sits beside the record. It never edits it.

  2. Reviews are public. Reviewers needn’t be.

Anyone who has stood in front of a judge can rate them, and can do it without putting their name on it. People in an open case have good reasons not to.

  3. No ad-tech. No trackers.

Many of our readers are researching the judge in their own case. What they read here is their business, so this site sets no tracking cookies and sells no one’s data.

  4. We’re lawyers. This isn’t legal advice.

Everything here is information about the courts, not advice about your case. For that, you need a lawyer of your own.
