Domestic Relations Hearing / Magistrate Sandra Eicher Timeliness: Decision was rendered in 47 days beyond the 30 days as discussed. Judicial Temperament: I am a naturalized U.S. citizen, and immigrated from a European country. English is my second language, and I have a perceivable accent. I work as an executive in a large company, possess higher education degrees. My English vocabulary would be considered rich, although sometimes, I may reverse sentence structures and mistake grammar rules more often than native speakers. In my culture, we often use our hands when we speak, gesticulate. Halfway in the hearing, while I was answering a question, I was interrupted by the magistrate and asked "why I speak like that". My accent and choice of words were ridiculed. The magistrate mimicked my accent, but also my gesticulation. I believed I was speaking intelligently at that point, and my hands were not overly animated. The magistrate told me to "stop talking" several times, and eventually to shut up. I rarely experienced acts of intolerance towards my cultural background like I did in that courtroom. Not only it was intolerant, it was also ignorant and discriminatory. For the rest of the hearing, I remained respectful and polite as I had been. But I felt ashamed, and my answers became short and noticed the shaming had an impact on my ability to make further statements, even a desire to communicate at all further and defend my case. In the written judgement, my credibility was questioned because of my exaggerated speech and body language, and l was ruled against based on credibility.
