This case involved a prolonged matrimonial and custody proceeding concerning parenting time, child support, contempt allegations, and disputes regarding the marital residence. During the proceedings, there were overlapping issues involving alleged custodial interference, supervised visitation, property and receivership-related litigation, and later bankruptcy proceedings connected to the marital home. Major custody restrictions and housing-related concerns occurred simultaneously, creating significant instability regarding parenting access, the children’s living arrangements, and the future of the marital residence. The case was later reassigned after extended periods of limited activity and unresolved motions. Legal Knowledge: In my experience, the proceedings reflected inconsistent application of procedural and jurisdictional standards, particularly regarding custody enforcement, contempt proceedings, child support jurisdiction, and property-related matters. Important issues were repeatedly shifted between courts or left unresolved for extended periods, while significant decisions affecting parenting access and the marital residence proceeded without what I felt was a complete evidentiary process. The overlap between custody restrictions, receivership-related proceedings, and bankruptcy issues created substantial confusion regarding the governing legal framework and available remedies. Fairness & Impartiality: In my experience, I did not feel that the proceedings were handled in a balanced or fully impartial manner. Significant parenting restrictions were imposed following allegations concerning my mental state and social media activity, while previously signed contempt-related matters involving custodial interference were never fully heard. At the same time, proceedings involving the potential forced sale of the marital residence continued despite unresolved concerns regarding the children’s housing stability and parenting access. I felt that conclusions about my credibility and mental health were reached prematurely and had lasting consequences on both my relationship with my children and my housing security. Judicial Temperament: In my experience, the overall courtroom atmosphere often felt unnecessarily adversarial and intimidating, particularly as a self-represented litigant. I frequently felt spoken to in a sarcastic or dismissive manner, and interactions with chambers and court staff sometimes came across as hostile or unprofessional. At times, I felt that concerns I raised were treated with frustration rather than neutrality, which made it difficult to feel comfortable participating in the proceedings or advocating for myself effectively. The tone of the proceedings often amplified an already highly stressful family court situation rather than helping to de-escalate it in a constructive or solution-oriented way. Communication: In my experience, there was a lack of clarity, continuity, and timely explanation regarding major rulings affecting custody, parenting time, child support, and property-related issues. Orders to Show Cause that had initially been signed by the court were never fully litigated, while other significant restrictions affecting access to my children were implemented rapidly and remained in place for extended periods. During the same time, proceedings involving receivership and the potential sale of the marital residence continued despite unresolved disputes involving custody and the children’s living arrangements. Following these rulings, the case experienced long periods of inactivity and limited communication, leaving many important issues unresolved for months. Timeliness: In my experience, while court appearances themselves were generally held as scheduled, the overall progression of the case lacked timely follow-through after major rulings were issued. Following significant custody-related decisions in 2024, there were extended periods of inactivity, unresolved motions, and limited communication from chambers regarding pending issues that directly affected parenting time, enforcement, and housing-related concerns. The prolonged lack of resolution after such impactful decisions created ongoing uncertainty and instability for both myself and my children.
