Eviction Notices and motion to appeal
Legal Knowledge: Judge Roberts was previously the County Attorney and he seems to know the applicable laws. However, he doesn’t always apply them correctly. Fortunately for him he has The Judges Discretion to fall back on.
Fairness & Impartiality: He appears to favor the litigant who has more money than those who do not. He has little respect for Pro Se Litigators.
Judicial Temperament: While he might start off calm, he looses his temper quickly and the inability to make a fair decision.
Communication: Like most other judges I’ve dealt with, he has little interest or patience to explain the process to anyone. IMO his favorite approach is There’s no excuse for ignorance of the law.
Timeliness: This is one of his best qualities. His ability to make timely decisions and execute his Orders is fairly impressive even if we don’t always agree. He is often late for starting court proceedings on time.
★★☆☆☆Litigant
Fairness & Impartiality: it's common and public knowledge that Roberts was involved in a non injury hit and run collision yet he never received any sanctions. it's a common suspicion that he has a drinking problem
★☆☆☆☆Member of the public
I’ve spent a lot of years in and out of the Rowan County courthouse because of my case, so I’ve had plenty of time to see how things work there and how different judges handle the bench. One of those judges is Willie Roberts.
Rowan County is a small place. Most folks in that courthouse have known each other a long time. Lawyers, court staff, and officials work around each other every day and those relationships run deep. When you come into that system as someone who isn’t part of that circle, it can feel a little different sitting on the other side of it.
Being a judge is a serious responsibility. The people standing in that courtroom are often going through some of the hardest times of their lives, and they’re trusting the court to follow the law and treat people fairly.
From where I sat, there were times when it seemed like some people were a little more comfortable in that courtroom than others. In a small town that can happen, but it’s something that matters a lot to the people whose lives are being decided there.
I don’t believe Judge Roberts is a bad person, but I do believe the position he holds carries a responsibility to make sure everyone who walks into that courtroom feels like the law applies the same to them as it does to anyone else.
At the end of the day, the people who come before a judge are putting their trust in the system and hoping the truth will be seen. For families and parents sitting in that courtroom, that trust means everything.
